WARNING: I don't even think this will interest anyone so be warned...
I don't claim to be anywhere near fashionable, and nor am I a fashion designer or icon.
But at least I respect myself enough to actually dress decently most of the time. Even though I can wear the most tailored and beautifully-made attire and it can still not make up for the lack of appeal on my face.
It's okay. We were all born this way.
I've been having a recent obsession with trying to broaden my wardrobe. Yes, I know, my wardrobe is exploding. With all the class t-shirts that I don't ever wear outside because it's quite a big no for me, and the jeans that no longer fit on my size 31 waist anymore, I'm not entirely sure buying more clothes is the way forward.
But you see, I think it's really essential that everyone has a wide array of clothings so that they are ever so versatile in various situations. And I also think that you should have different stuff so that you don't always look the same. I have friends that wear the same thing for like 5 years now, and no, I'm not putting them down because they have priorities elsewhere. It's just that my priority - because I don't actually have a girlfriend - is to look decent enough so that my priority can change - to have a girlfriend.
Nah I'm not desperate.
I guess wearing the right thing is a form of respect for people and also yourself. If you look neat, then you've nailed it. But being messy and dressing-down is great for certain occasions too, like a trip to the beach or a hangout at my house.
So the key is to have a wardrobe big enough to fit everything in between - and then some.
People usually have about 4 different categories of clothings: home attire, casual hangout, smart casual and then formal. That's all very decent, and indeed it will suffice for pretty much everything you'll ever attend in your short life.
I'm talking more of... expanding those categories horizontally, not trying to create a new category of in-betweens and what not.
I've been buying normal plain tees, berms and chinos. Then recently, after Zihui (my ladyboss from secondary school) bought a drop-tail tee from Australia's Factorie outlet for me. And that kinda changed quite a few things. Firstly, it countered my so-called "unproportionate body" of a short torso and long legs. The long cutting really makes me look less tall, and I feel more normal. Secondly, I thought I looked swaggy. I thought. I thought. What you think is another thing entirely.
In case you have no clue what I'm rambling on about, here's a picture of a drop-tail tee.
Yes, it's Factorie again, and yes, I've just bought that exact one in the picture from Zalora.
I've also bought my first pair of sweatpants/joggers/low crotch pants/trackpants/whatever-superfragialisticbullshityoucallthemnowadays.
So yeah, think of me as trying to expand my wardrobe horizontally, and not trying to sandwich a new category in between.
And I think more people should do that too, if you really care about what you wear. Because, contrary to popular believe, having multiple different colours of a plain tee paired with mutiple different colours of a plain bermudas can actually get boring after a while. Having many of the same thing doesn't make it a different thing.
Peace.
Song of the day:
Backstreet Boys - Inconsolable
(Thanks mel for introducing this 2007 song to me. It's really stuck on me. Love the super cliche pop tune of it. Because, for music, I'm no different from the crowd.)
(Intense MV by the way.)
