Farewell

About 4 weeks ago, estimated 22 August 2013, BlinkyBlink gave birth to 3 healthy babies. The first one was named Zen, and it passed away about 1 day after I discovered its pinkish figure. Never saw its corpse, assume it was eaten by its mother.

There's an explanation for this. Apparently, if the mother felt she had no ability to take care of the hamster, she'll kill or even eat the baby (if it's small enough). Zen was less than a week old, and that was the most likely cause. It was the victim of the selective killing. Bye Zen, 27 August 2013.

Then there's KitKat. KitKat is the 2nd smallest (or 2nd biggest). Unfortunately, it died on 9 September 2013. Most likely cause was because the tank the family lived in works like this: Krunch, the solo female hamster, and the family of hamsters (Tiglet, BlinkyBlink and the now 2 babies) live in the same tank, albeit being separated with a partition whereby there are small holes big enough for BlinkyBlink and Krunch to exchange shrieks against each other every night. The likely argument build-up may be the reason for BlinkyBlink's aggression, causing her to kill KitKat. And well, KitKat didn't have the best of leaving earth. Bye, KitKat.

Lastly, there's Oreo, the healthiest and biggest of the babies. It's also the whitest, but somehow, it had symptoms that it wasn't in the pink of health, by a lack of movement throughout the day. Unfortunately, exactly a week after its sibling, KitKat, passed on, Oreo joined it. Its body was lifeless when I discovered it just 1 hour before I wrote this. It was fine this morning though. Bye Oreo, 16 September 2013.

Back to square 1. Nope, I did not shed a single tear, nor did I feel sad. I just feel regret that I could have done so much better as a caregiver. Not pestering the mother, giving her a stress-free environment is very important. And, of course, food is important as well. It's the mother's first time giving birth too, I'm sure she's not used to it too.

Maybe it's just nature that these things happen. What can we do as owners? Learn from it, and prevent the tragedies from happening again, I guess.

It's not RIP, my 3 babies, but it's a thank you. Thank you, for making my life so beautiful for 3 weeks. Your images will be in my head for as long as I don't suffer from memory loss. Thank you! :)

Here's a song dedicated to y'all 3 babes. #thankyou
