So... As we all know, and I've reminded almost everyone I've seen... CHINESE NEW YEAR IS COMING.
And it's not just about CNY itself that I'm looking forward to. It's more than that. It's a mix of material wants and... well... the fun, of course.
This year's CNY is going to be extra special, and here are some reasons why:
1. Bridge
I finally learnt Bridge in 2013! One of the greatest achievements in mankind history. Ever. For a stupid and slow guy to learn Bridge and win a game or two is - to a small extent- pretty remarkable. It's just so fun, once you get into the "business" of things, you can't stop. It's just not something you can put down. It'll literally change your perception of poker cards. Everytime you see poker cards, the first thing you can think of is... Bridge. Not Texas Poker, not Poker, not Blackjack, not Big Two (which I was very addicted to in 2013 prior to Bridge) and certainly not Cheat. But Bridge. Because... it's just that good. And of course, during CNY, there's always card games to look out for, and when you have a group of buddies that can play Bridge as well... You're in for a treat.
2. 3 Reunion Dinners
Yes. Not 1. Not 2. But 3. Well, it's not all officially reunion dinners. Let's kick off with Tuesday, in less than 20 hours after I've written this post. The JEYS are meeting up to have a small reunion dinner. It's this special bond between us that... we'll just not get sick of each other. The group is just... I guess, fun buddies? Study buddies? Talk-cock-sing-song buddies? I don't know, but there's a lot of swag being one of them. And yes, we're exclusive. No entry allowed. *winks*
2nd reunion dinner is with the family, including my sister's family. If you haven't known yet, I've a step-sister. She's 12 years older than me, and has 2 very very adorable children. So yeah, we'll be having a reunion dinner with them on Wednesday evening, right after my squash training. Not sure if I'll arrive smelling like a man repeatedly dipped into a trashbin but... Can't wait for that! The default menu has shark fin soup so... I'm trying to push for a change in the menu and my parents seem to have understood my intentions and hopefully they'll ask for a dish swap. I never will eat shark fin again. Mark my words.
3rd reunion dinner is with the family again but without the sister's side. So it's just a simple steamboat for 5 of us (including my aunt), on the eve of CNY. I guess it's just simple and nice, nothing dramatic, nothing much to talk about. Yet it's something we all look forward to - a nice steamboat with a small family, relaxing and just talking rubbish at the dining table.
3. Angpaos
This is getting old but... whoever doesn't anticipate getting angpaos need to have a mental checkup. That being said, I'm not being greedy or asking for a lot of money. It's just that excitement of getting them - not the actual value inside of them. It's just that "feel", ya know?
4. CNY Party
For the first time I'm actually holding a CNY Party for my class. CG 27/13's heading over despite the long distances for most staying in the Bedok area (sorry guys, my house can't move to y'all so...). It won't be the traditional type of course, it'll just be a party. With like, nicely dressed people playing wacky stuff. I don't know, I don't actually have a plan so I'll have to see how many are coming first. I think we're looking at cards, PS3 (of course), karaoke and maybe a few minigames? I don't know, I have no clue yet... But it's something I really look forward to!
5. The Phone
I'm changing my phone on Monday, 4 Feb. So yeah... Really looking forward to that one. It's been a long time since I've gotten a new phone, and I'm glad I sold the Note 2 last year upon purchasing it because I felt there was no need for me to have such a big phone. But after becoming involved in the latest Android news and stuff, I realised I do need a change. In a sense, it may be a blessing in disguise - changing to the Note 2 last year may not have allowed me to change to an even better phone this year. So I'm already pretty much anticipating that new phone's arrival. It's just so fun. I can't wait for this phone... I actually did weigh my options and after much contemplation, I decided to get a phone that's not small in size for sure. If you follow me on Twitter, I've been constantly bragging about wanting this particular phone lately. So yeah... Follow me on Twitter ya. *winks* @PieSlicedHam
6. Food (duh)
They say you should always save the best for last so... Food is the best part. With so much good food from all over this gigantic Phang family of mine, I think I'll be sufficiently fed throughout the parties I'm going to attend. Curry, Mee Goreng, Mixed Vegetables, Baked Rice. And then we have the snacks like Prawn Rolls, Waffle Biscuits etc. Sorry, please allow me to clean my drool...
ANDDDDD......... That's all! Here's wishing all you carrots and cupcakes a very happy Lunar New Year! May you be ever beautiful, handsome, intelligent and diligent in whatever you do in the Year of the Horse! And remember, your best is good enough. Don't let others set targets for you; just do your best and do yourself proud.
P.S.: Oh I fell in love with this song so... And no, it's not something that has happened to me but it's quite relatable in a music kinda way. Swag. OH AND THE MV IS SO COOL AND GOOD.
