You see, some people are designed to make you feel helpless. Sometimes they come to you, and tell you things that, frankly you cannot solve. And I do not blame them at all. Who the hell are they supposed to tell their problems to anyway?
As a friend or a family member, it's your job to look the least helpless during these times. Because it sucks when you tell other people your problems and the other person can only say "okay... I'm sorry for that..." or "I need to take a piss now brb" or "I have to go solve global warming just so that you feel less depressed about getting lousy grades for your Math exams".
So, what can you do to not give a sense of helplessness? Well, thanks to me, you have a few solutions.
1. Give a pat or a hug or a kiss
It may be over the phone, on Whatsapp, or in real life. Doing this shows that you appreciate them a lot. You make them feel like "yo, I've got this person here, it's going to be alright".
2. Go ramble off in a long message
Long messages always work. Because it shows how much you actually care. The fact that you're already typing or saying a long message shows that you actually want to care, and not just give the default "I'm so sorry" answer. That is just so superficial. If you want to be a true friend or a concerned family member, do more. Show that you actually WANT to care.
3. Make them happy
They say laughter is the best medicine, no? So give them a short joke. Or maybe quickly change the topic into something hilarious. Remember that one time you dropped your phone into your toilet bowl? Yeah, you could use that joke.
Although it doesn't make things less... shittier. Hah. Geddit.
4. DO NOT keep reminding them about it
Look, it's been a few weeks now. Stop reminding dear Tommy that he forgot to flush or princess Sally that she broke her heels at the prom. It doesn't only show that you are helpless (or purposely wanting to be helpless), it also shows that you need sterilisation. Because you're a dirty ass.
With all these skills, you can now go and make many friends.
You're welcome.

Song of the day:
Rixton - Me And My Broken Heart
(Oh, do not sing this song. It'll make you seem more than helpless really.)
