Over the weekend last week, together with the family, I visited a fishing village in Malaysia called Pulau Kukup in Pontian.
Obviously, the first thing I ranted about as we walked on the stone pavement that was barely 2m wide with waters and seabeds filled with mangrove that protrude like spikes, threatening to puncture any human being who tumbles into the sea, was that village life is dangerous. I mean, 2m pavement, with very dirty waters and "freaking" spikes, and then we have like motorbikes speeding on the pavement shared with pedestrians. 1 mishap or miscalculation by you or the cyclist could bring you to inevitable death - okay, a bit of exaggeration. Maybe just your clothes dirtied and your legs could hurt a bit.
And then there was another problem. Boring. Nothing was going on. Everyone was just selling whatever they could find in their houses, from herbal teas to dried shrimps, which coincidentally, was sold right beside my resort which meant we had to endure a strong stench. Thankfully, it did rain so they kept the shrimps and we were spared.
No but seriously, village life is boring. Everyone just sits down there, lazing all year. I get it, some go to work, I know. But just imagine coming back home, and then sitting there for the rest of your day with little entertainment.
Or maybe I'm just not a village boy.
Some say villages are peaceful, and can be relaxing. I know, I have realised that too. But I got bored about 6 hours after arriving at Kukup so... Says a lot about me. I probably can't stand hanging around; I prefer urban life where everything happens faster and probably presents you with more choices.
Which is the reason why whilst others will say that once they've earned enough, they'll go to New Zealand and rear sheep, I'll probably not do the same. I'd rather have a house just outside the central city, probably on the outskirts, and remaining accessible.
I mean, everyone says they want to build a farm and go far away from the city. But how practical is that? You need food; your sheep ain't giving you everything. You need electricity, water, whatsoever. I'd rather stay accessible.
Or maybe I'm just too practical.
Song of the day:

(I love this song, but I probably ain't gonna sing to anyone.)
