I'm moving, as you may have probably read about it on my Twitter.
So here are some things I'll probably miss staying in an HDB flat.
1. Cats
I love cats, so not having them loitering below and allowing me to pat them will be a huge miss. Although, the new place does have quite a few cats loitering within to, so I'm thankful those furry ones will still be petted. Often.
2. Ice Cream Man
He comes by every Saturday, and it's a shame I haven't bought any ice cream from him for the past few years. But I'll miss him ringing the bells just to let little kids run towards him, frantically waving their $1-filled hands asking for a Cookie & Cream ice cream.
3. Lantern Festivals
Last time, we used to put candles on the steps surrounding the playground every Lantern Festival to celebrate. Fire crackers, candles lit up around the playground, and it was so amazing to see. I remembered burning leaves and twigs too, setting up a small campfire albeit without the necessary marshmallow.
And here is what I will not miss at all.
1. Some people piss me off
They do. I hope when I move away, I will never contact these people again. End off.
2. Void deck events
Okay, I'm sorry to offend, but void deck events kind of annoy me sometimes. Especially during the getai period, and then there's a massive getai just opposite my block. And it is always nearing examination period. Untimely. I used to visit them when I was young, but I slowly grew out of it.
I remembered this year, there was a Chinese funeral just about a block away from a getai. What really displeased me was how the getai went max volume despite the chanting and prayers happening at the funeral. To me, it is plain disrespectful. I know a funeral may not be planned whilst a getai may have already been planned months ago, but still, the family's in grief so at least I think they should've been more considerate.
3. Inconsiderate
And that brings me on to what annoys me about people staying at HDB blocks. Some people are very nice people, I like saying hi to the Aunty living on my storey. But some people are just plain annoying. Blasting radio downstairs at 2am, making loud noises, water dripping from upstairs because people don't dry their clothes before hanging them outside. Sometimes I kinda wish some people were more... cultured and considerate? Yes, it's common living spaces, but hey, basic courtesy, right?
Anyway, I'd love to bring up my kids in the future in an HDB flat. It's where childhood starts; the ability to play football, play lanterns and hang out with down-to-earth kids at the playground. That's where childhood should start.
