No it did not. I'm joking.
The first wish I received was from Celia, my Sec 3 and 4 classmate, at around 12:10am. Funnily, our last conversation on Whatsapp was on 12 March 2015, for the same reason.
So yes, I had a low key and slow birthday wish thingy. It's so different from last year. I remember I actually did get quite a lot of messages. This year? Nothing much.
Does it make me sad? No.
Because the people who matter are there for me, and I can never be ungrateful for that.
Honestly, the whole wishing-at-12am thing is overrated. I mean, firstly, what's with the obsession over being first? Is being first for everything that important? I mean yes, being first means you actually waited for it to turn 12am and you timed it nicely. You are thoughtful.
But people who send texts later don't actually have any ill-intentions either.
So shout out to whoever who cared, be it via Facebook (the only time of the year where people actually use Facebook nowadays is during their birthdays, so they can reply 'Thank You _________' on their timeline) or Whatsapp, or via words. Thank you.
So, onto the birthday itself. To summarise, I spent the first 16 hours of my birthday alone. Yes, by alone, I mean I legitimately stayed at home alone (parents were overseas and brother was working at the IT Show) and did nothing apart from slowly rotting.
For once, I felt lost. There was nothing to do on my birthday. I've never had a birthday this quiet for a long time. It felt empty, which was natural anyway because I'm so used to spending time with others.
Mercifully, the party party (as in, the first party being party and the second party being the equivalent of a squad, excuse the double) did arrive at 5:30pm - onwards - at my place, and soon we were playing Munchkins and the PS4.
I was the only one that noticed the camera...
Anyway, the lads got me a set of Munchkin cards! I'm starting to slowly grasp the concept of this game, and when you actually know what you're doing, it's pretty amazing. Despite each game lasting 2 hours or more, it is a pretty engaging game.
And hey, I won on only my third game okay. Not too shabby for a novice.
So anyway, the boys stayed over, and Jia Juen made breakfast the next morning. Not that tom yum was bad but my stomach could not tolerate that at 10am in the morning. So naturally, I visited the washroom after that.
Thanks for whipping up the breakfast anyway! And thanks to the rest for cleaning up too~
You guys are massively thoughtful, bringing all my favourite food especially Krispy Kreme and Apple Strudel over (yes I'm a fat bitch, you have a problem with that?). Thank you, lady and gentlemen.
Rewind back to 11 March 2016.
Mel and I were supposed to go to this high tea thing at Amara Hotel in February, but stupid me made a reservation far too late and we were unable to make it. So, to make up for it, I did reserve it on time this time, and we managed to get to the high tea.
The entire thing cost $50, but we managed to get it at $35 on Groupon. If you ask me whether it's worth it, I'd still be a bit reluctant. I mean, the food is fine, but for $50 it could have been much more. Especially loved the Portuguese egg tart and sandwiches, but the creme brulee was as bad as Donald Trump. I'm just sayin'.
After that, we had to entertain ourselves before mel gets to CHIJMES by 7pm. So I unwrapped my present.
It was massively annoying.
Yes, mel got me that blue Jabra Solemate Mini. How can you not be annoyed? Like, it's your favourite colour, and it's something you've wanted for so damn long. I blushed. I smiled. How can someone be so thoughtful I have absolutely no answer for.
So yes, that's my bff in a summary: thoughtful. Very, actually.
And just for the record: no, we are not dating.
Anyway, shoutout to you, mel! You made me so friggin' happy that day, you've no idea. Now I can understand why you say I'd be "shocked".
Fast forward to 13 March, and teamYOLO went out for dinner at Waterway Point. I swear, this place is the most confusing yet most beautiful shopping centre in Singapore.
For a start, there are two wings: east and west. And then the levels are staggered; you can't go vertically up on some escalators, whilst you can go all the way to the top floor on some. I do appreciate that such an arrangement makes for a rather spacious shopping centre, and the concept of space is really well exploited, but there was simply too much confusion.
Or maybe it's just because it's my first time there.
Exit the mall on the other side, and you're greeted with a small lake and a park that links to the rest of the new neighbourhood and park connectors.
I love this modern town layout, and I'm so excited to have my own house next time in this area. Not that I can afford it, but one can always dream regardless.
We ate at Social Square, which featured a dual Japanese and Western menu. I went for the Japanese one, because Western food was so much pricier; a bake rice cost $16.80 but a rice bowl cost $12.80. I'd very much be a Nakajima than a Newton, thank you.
Thank you Zihui for buying us clothes from Australia, and for coming over merely 4 hours upon touchdown from the airport! I received those kind of long-cut shirts (the ones so long you could wear it as a dress), one being S-sized and the other XXS-sized. Both fit, the second being a lot tighter but it's still wearable.I just have to not eat for the next 14 days.
So that was pretty much how I spent my 20th. It's far different from last year, or the year before, and even the year before that, but I appreciate every single thing done. Sometimes the silence and low-key enables us to pay closer attention to all the little details and efforts others put in. So we should be appreciative, and not lament the fact that we don't received as much material gifts as we used to. Because the sentimental part of it remains.
Happy Birthday to me~
Song of the day:
胡夏 - 替我照顾她
(Okay, I confess, I knew this song because I wiki-ed 'Vivian Sung' and this was one of the MVs she filmed. Coincidentally, the song is pretty sick. So I stuck with it.)
(On a bit of a Chinese pop songs roll at the moment.)

The spine connecting the east and west wings, which is pretty cool in design.
